2001 Note From the Database of Keith L. Smith:
The date and location of Betsey's birth is another one of our family's puzzles that may never be unraveled. Based on the lack of a baptism in Wythe Co., Virginia it would be logical to say that she was not born there. But based on the other records in Wythe Co., Virginia and Preble Co., Ohio / Wayne Co., Indiana which shows that her parents sold land in Wythe Co., Virginia in 1800 and 1808 and residing in Preble Co., OH in 1810, it would indicate that she was possibly born in Virginia.
The Census reports for are inconclusive as to her age. Thus we do have a good indication as to the year in which is was born. 1806 would be the most logical based on the census.
Since my personally research on this branch of the family has been limited to compiling what other family historians have reported and checking only the indices for the birth, death and census records, I have recorded the alternatives found.
