We have not found a location for where Jacob Kißling was born or died. Before 1580 there was a Jacob Kißling living in Lauingen, near Sigmaringen, which is not far from Winterlingen. Also before 1580 it was reported that a Jacob Kißling married in Sigmaringen. Records to provide the missing link between Ludwig's father and this or these Jacob Kißlings has not been found.
Based on the family legend that the Kißling family came from Switzerland, it is possible that Ludwig's father Jacob was born in Switzerland. It is interesting to note that in Switzerland, the Kissling or Kislig families were Catholic and several left Switzerland and settled in areas that were Catholic, once the Reformation was in full swing in Switzerland. We have found records that at least two families moved back to Solothurn when being Catholic there was no longer a problem.
