Narrative

KLS note about the church records in Winterlingen.
This is the oldest record for the Kissling family that has been found in the church records of the Evangelische Kirche (Evangelical Church) in Winterlingen, Winterlingen, Baden Württemberg. The original church record books are available at the Pfarrerhaus (church office) just south of the church. On my first visit there, the secretary allowed me to start photocopying the pages that contained Kissling family records. I had just finished copying the second record when the minister arrived and stopped the photocopying. He stated that the records were too fragile to photocopied. I was able to continue looking at the records, but had to be satisfied with making notes.
The LDS has microfilmed these church records and they are available on LDS Film # 1190228. The quality of the film is good, but the writing of the some of the ministers provides a challenge, even if one is comfortable reading the old German script.
My personal research in the original records has been supplemented by research using the LDS Microfilm. Wolfgang Sakowski confirmed and provided additional information about the Kissling family in Winterlingen (and Trüchtelfingen), Württemberg through his many hours of research using the LDS Microfilms and corresponding with governmental offices and professional genealogist in Germany. Wolfgang is a native speaker of German and is a friend of Earl Kisling (a descendant of the 1752 immigrant - Christopher Kissling who was according to oral family history either a brother or cousin of the brothers - Hans Jacob and Johann Georg Kissling that immigrated in 1749.) Without all his work our history of the Kissling family in Württemberg from about 1550 through the late 1700's would not be as complete as it is.
See the notes for Hans Jacob Kissling (b. 1705) for the story about my first research trip to Germany and how we only by pure chance discovered our Winterlingen roots.
